December 13, 201411 yr Hi Everyone, Stupid question it seems like: Can I run a parity check while I am pre-clearing my new 4TB drive? thanks, -KF
December 13, 201411 yr Since no one else has jumped in, it should not be an issue. (The new drive is not a part of the array at this point.) It might slow the preclear and/or the parity check a bit but any time lost would be less then waiting until the preclear finished. If you are just checking to make sure that all of your drives are readable before installing a new drive, I would run a non-correcting parity check. That type of check can be terminated at any time without causing any problems. IF you should find a problem during the check, you should probably resolve that before installing that new drive anyway.
