Help design a 20x4 status dashboard.

I'm thinking of embarking on a project to use a Crystal Fontz Interface for a status dash board.

I've had experience programming the Roku M2000 and I've finally acquired a used one.

It's worked well for my needs which are a visible clock and heads up status marquee when I need to be warned about something.

and old block post of mine.

While I can re-ignite that it means people who want to use one, will have to source a used one.

There are m1000's which have a 40x2 display. I like these allot as they are wireless.

Still you have to source a used item. I think Roku did themselves a disservice by not utilizing the hardware enough with LCDproc or something like that.

However, in today's age, Crystal Fontz is still selling nice displays for an affordable amount.

Example:

These are limited to a 20x4 display.  I sure wish it were 40x2 instead, then at least we could have all 26 drives in one line.

In the meantime. If we have 20x4 characters, what or how should array health be represented?

I.E. What would be the things to display considering characters only.

This is the ruler and you have 4 lines

[11111111112222222222]

1.

2.

3.

4.

I would love to dedicate the bottom row to individual drives, but that means scrolling left and right or folding it over from line 3 down.

Considering we have up to 26 drives,

[] blank space missing uninstalled slot

_ drive installed and spin down

O Drive installed and OK, spun up and active. or ^ char?

? Check drive health (Smart)

!  Drive missing/redball

H Drive HOT. (do we need this? or use ! )

E errors on Drive (from webGui errors field)

I suppose a line at top if Array is healthy and when last parity check completed.

perhaps changing that or the second line to parity in progress and percentage.

I was thinking with the buttons on the front panel we could possibly stop/start/reboot/power/spin up/spin down/check/clear.

thinking out loud here as I write this....

I could divide line 3/4 and have 13 drives on one line and 13 on the other.

This way a large array would have all the information visible.

I know this post is old but I was wondering if you did happen to get an LCD display working with unRAID? I would love to have an LCD display unRAID info on the front of my rack.

Can LCDproc be added to unRAID?  I would need the lis.so driver as I have the Nmedia LCD, got it working in a Windows 7 VM but that only show stats for the VM.

I gave up on this. With the cheap price of Android tablets these days. It makes more sense to use wifi, emhttp and a browser.

My friend turned me on to a $40 android tablet. That vs the cost of an LCD device made me reconsider my time and effort to do this.
