December 21, 201411 yr How do I know if my drives are spun down? I helped a fried set up a server last night (v5.0.6) and saw his drives had a flashing green ball next to them indicating they were spun down I have v5.0.5 and mind are always solid. Does that mean my drives aren't spinning down?
December 22, 201411 yr Author Wow. That means that for as long as I've had my server, they have never spun down. I checked and everything associated with spin down is set to default (15 minutes). Any thoughts on where to start troubleshooting?

Any thoughts on where to start troubleshooting? There's a report somewhere that certain WD drives do not support 15 minute spin down, so try 30 minutes instead. I cannot confirm that myself.
December 22, 201411 yr Or it could be that something is using them and is preventing them from spinning down. Glance at the reads/writes over a 15 minute period when you are sure nothing should be using them and see if that is in fact the case.
