Hard drive will not spin down

Featured Replies

Hello Unraid Forums,

I am new to unraid and have been playing around with 6.0-beta12. My hardware is an old Dell Precision 690 which has both an SATA controller and an SAS controller, an LSI SAS 1068 IR I believe. I have three hard drives that i have been connecting in different configurations. While the hard drives work correctly when connected to the SATA controller, anytime i connect one the SAS controller it stays spun up at all times. I have tried using spindown timers and the spindown button in the webgui to no avail the drive always appears as active in the webGui. I tried getting the power state of the drive using hdparm and the result was

SG_IO: bad/missing sense data, sb[]:  70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 20 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00

drive state is:  standby

Being unfamiliar with hdparm and linux in general, I am not certain what this result means or where to go from here. I was hoping to be able to use all the available ports, both sata and sas, on this box for unraid. Any information would be appreciated.
