January 1, 201511 yr Hello...all Need help for my unraid. ... German help here?....plz pm My proplem: Disk9 was a trouble. ..i must rebuild the data on it. After 6 hours i See the array are offline. I look and see disk9 and disk13 are red and unformatted. And now i don't know what i can do. Sry for my Bad english. ...German better ..... Thx for help I will try to help. My German is none. I think your SATA or power cables are loose. It made drives red, When you tried to rebuild disk 9, did you use a new disk or try to rebuild on top of the current disk 9?
January 2, 201511 yr Author hi...ok in english...but don't cry for my bad i have rebuild on the same disk9, because i hope it was , for example a cable or card error. and now i have changed the cable for a lot of disks. not better the two disks are unformatted
January 2, 201511 yr A disk can come up as unformatted if for any reason unRAID is unable to cleanly mount the disk. This could be because a write failed at some point. The recovery process is to: Stop the array and restart it in maintenance mode From a console/telnet session run a command of the form reiserfsck --check /dev/md9 This can run for some time so make if using telnet make sure that the window is kept open while the reiserfsck is running. At the end reiserfsck will report if any corruption is found and recommend a recovery action. You probably now need to rerun reiserfsck with the recommended parameters for the recovery action. You might want to check back here before taking the recovery action as taking the wrong recommended action may be non-recoverable Repeat for each disk with issues. Once recovery is complete you stop the array from maintenance mode and restart in normal mode and the disks should come up with their data intact
January 2, 201511 yr That suggest that there is a problem accessing that drive. It may have dropped offline for some reason. You could check by running a command from a console/telnet session of the form: smartctl -A /dev/sdx If the drive is online that should give you some results, and if not an error message. If the drive is offline you might want to try rebooting the system and check that the drive is being seen at the BIOS level. If not then there is no chance that unRAID will see it. If a drive has dropped offline then rebooting can sometimes fix the issue. If that does not bring it back then the drive may genuinely be faulty. It can be worth checking the cabling as well in case one has worked loose.
January 2, 201511 yr Author ok...the two disks give a lot of results. (disk9 and disk13) now i must check my hardware?......because i have changed the cable from disk to disk
January 2, 201511 yr Author hmmm...i put disk 9 out and on my win8 with usb and it is seen on it under system options
January 2, 201511 yr I notice that the screen shot of the SMART results showed there are pending sectors. Not sure if these can cause the error message from reiserfsck. I am not sure of the best way to recover from such issues but there are threads on this.
January 2, 201511 yr Author ok i lost my data on this 2 disks.....i understand....but why i can't formate this two disks....unraid always aborted-----argh
January 2, 201511 yr ok i lost my data on this 2 disks.....i understand....but why i can't formate this two disks....unraid always aborted-----argh I do not think that the data on the disks is necessarily lost. There have certainly been threads where data was recovered after this sort of problem.
January 2, 201511 yr Author sry i really lost...delete it under win..... wrong button.... :'( and now i will have back the two disks in my server......but it will not formtted...always abort what must i do to bring back my two disks in the array? we must it handle , that are 2 broken disks i must change...right? what does Identify do?
January 2, 201511 yr Author what a shi.... what must i do for bring back (with or without the data) the 2 disks?
January 2, 201511 yr Post another screenshot so we can make sure we understand the current state of your array.
January 2, 201511 yr Author it's the same.....the two disks are marked as unformatted and when i klick format in unraid then aborted. but the 2 disks are under win8 for testing formatted in ntfs......sry a big mistake...wrong button but..the 2 disks work perfect without error under win8 and now...i know...i lost the data on the two disks.... i will have the disks back in the server with or without a rebuild on the 2 disks thx
January 2, 201511 yr When you say the format is aborted, what do you mean? Is there a message that says that?
January 2, 201511 yr Author when i klick on format...ist starts..but after few second i klick on refresh and it don't format. and when i have my tft on the server i see on it a massage with aborted
January 2, 201511 yr ok... The syslog is showing I/O errors right at the start of the disk which is why it is not formatting. I would recommend connecting the disk to a Windows system and running the manufacturers diagnostic software against the disk to see what it says.
January 2, 201511 yr Author hmmm ok...i do it ...but under windows the disks works....and in the unraid not :-(
January 2, 201511 yr Just because a disk works under Windows does not mean that it has no faults. That is why I said run the manufacturers diagnostic software to check out the disk.
January 3, 201511 yr Author done...for disk 9 now i test it in the unraid > don't work....i don't can format the disk
January 3, 201511 yr Author syslog at this morning...... is this unraid mistake or what is going on..... the disks are tested and good....i do a full formating.....not enough :'( syslog-2015-01-03.txt
