Some notable differences include:

Seagate:

5900rpm

Nonrecoverable Read Errors per Bits Read = 1 per 10E14

WDC:

5400rpm

Nonrecoverable Read Errors per Bits Read = 1 per 10E15

Regards,  Peter

With Seagate's reputation as of late, they are thinking they can charge MORE than Western Digital???? - "suggested retail prices of $118 for the Barracuda LP 1TB, $156 for 1.5TB, and $358 for the 2TB version". - From this article http://www.anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=590

If these retail prices are accurate, this is going to be another blow to Seagate that they don't need right now.  I used to use them exclusively, but ever since the recent issues I just can't trust them.  And now they want to charge a "premium" for their low power drives.  No Thank You!

These Seagate drives will have a slight performance edge over the WD GP.  The prices are closely in line with WD.  I think you'll see street prices are very close.

That means competition.  Like 'em or hate 'em, that's good for everyone.  Go Seagate!

After the firmware fiasco, you have to beleive that Seagate has tested the crap out of these drives.  My guess (hope) is that this will be a very solid product and push prices down.  I had hoped that Seagate might come out with a slightly larger drive (e.g., 2.5T).  That would have done more to push prices of the 2T drive lower, as there is a market segment that will always buy the biggest and best.  We'll have to see how WD responds.

According to this article:

In addition to offering slightly better performance, the new Seagates are supposed to be quieter and use less power too...

In this case Tech Report is comparing the 2 platter 1TB Seagate against WD's 4 platter 2TB drive. WD's 2TB drive actually uses 10% less startup voltage, 1.8w less when idle, and .8w when operating. Those power savings can be attributed to the slightly lower RPM and idle head parking feature. The WD 2TB is also 1db quieter when idle, and when seeking if acoustic management is enabled (which all Seagate drives lack).

WD also launched an enterprise version of their 2TB green drive last week. The WD RE4-GP has a 64mb buffer and is available at Newegg for $329.99.

Samsung is behind the curve having launched their 1.5tb F2 EcoGreen drive last month with only limited availability still.

Samsung does need to get their act together on the availability of their Ecogreen drives.  I have an HD103UI in the middle of several WD Green Power drives, and it is always several degrees colder than the drives around it.  And there is no case airflow thing that could be causing that.
