mrbens
Hello, please could I have some advice. My parity drive showed a red ball with over 100 errors. After a reboot it now shows blue ball stating: Stopped. New parity disk installed. Full log before reboot included. Multiple: Jan 8 02:34:19 Tower kernel: md: disk0 write error, sector=3581302360 (Errors) Bad logs started with: Jan 8 02:33:33 Tower kernel: ata16.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 (Errors) Last red log: Jan 8 03:49:44 Tower kernel: md: disk1: ATA_OP e3 ioctl error: -5 (Errors) Only SMART errors are: » load_cycle_count=14578 » udma_crc_error_count=1 Am I OK to perform the rebuild and carry on as normal? Start will bring the array on-line and start Parity-Sync. Log_8.1.15.txt.zip Link to comment
itimpi
The syslog shows that drive W3004ZM2, ST4000DM000-1F2168 appeared to have problems and go off-line. A bit later you started getting write errors on the parity drive. Not sure if the drive I mentioned is the parity drive or not? I would check cabling in case one of them working slightly loose is the cause of the issue. Also a full SMART report for the drive mentioned above (and the parity drive if different) might be a good idea. If the drives look OK in the SMART reports then attempting to rebuild the parity seems the right way to go. Link to comment
mrbens
Thanks for the reply. W3004ZM2 is the parity. I have turned the server back on and it still thinks the parity drive is new. "Stopped. itimpi
The SMART report all looks OK so going ahead to try and create parity makes sense. I guess it is now a case of waiting to see if it completes OK. Link to comment
mrbens
Parity rebuilt and checked with 0 errors. I hope everything is back to normal and it hasn't rebuilt with any problems. Link to comment
mrbens
The same thing has happened again, slightly differently this time. Parity has a red ball and has been disabled. Disk 1 has similar disk activity and has 10 errors. 1526 errors on the parity! There were only about 133 the previous time. A LOT of reads on both disks. The other drives only have a few thousand reads. Device Identification Temp. Checking inside my server both these drives go to the same 2 port SATA PCI-E card. Hopefully the issue is as simple as a faulty SATA card. After a reboot disk 1 is no longer missing and has a green icon again. Same as last time the parity drive is blue and the array status is "Stopped. New parity disk installed." SMART reports look fine for both disks. Ordered a replacement SATA card to arrive on Tuesday. As a precaution I've swapped out the SATA card temporarily until the new one comes with an old one I'd kept from a previous fault where it wasn't 100% certain the SATA card was at fault. Started re-build of the parity. Log_10.1.15.txt.zip Link to comment
