UnRaid Was Reset. How Can I fix It?

Featured Replies

I recently had issues with one of my UnRaid servers where a contractor working on my kitchen turned off the breaker for my servers by mistake.  One of my servers booted up fine but the other one froze loading "bzroot".  I put the USB drive into another USB port and it booted normally (could get to root) but I couldn't access it via the web interface.  After some searching I came across this thread and used the following command to reset the webserver.

killall emhttp

/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

I went to the web interface via IP and it came up but it look completely reset.  No drives were selected and it looked like it a basic license instead of my Plus license. I restarted the server again and I'm back to square one (can access root but no web interface to start the array).

I am running unRAID Server Plus, Version 5.0-beta14. I haven't bothered upgrading because everything has been working just fine for what I need.  I'm at a loss of what to try nice so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Came across another thread where it said to try running "ls -l /dev/disk/by-label" to see if was labeled properly.  It wasn't so I went to see if I could change the volume label on my PC and it wouldn't recognize my USB drive.  Connected it back to my unraid server and it boots (can get to root), I can telnet to it but it still can't access the web interface to start the array.  Is there any way to backup the USB config over telnet so I can maybe try a new USB drive?

Sounds like your USB is shot.  I would get a new one and email tom to send you a new license k

/boot/ is the directory of your flash.  See if you can list the data in there.  If so maybe you can copy it to another USB (probably have to mount it)

Good luck!

Can you tell me how to get to /boot/ and how to mount it? I can telnet to the server but I'm not sure what to do from there.

This would be simpler, but I don't know if it will work since you are having problems accessing shares. The flash share is accessible even without the array started if you have enabled access to it.

Can you get to \\tower\flash from your PC? If you have renamed your tower then use that name instead, or the ip address of your unRAID

Unfortunately, no.  I think I may be rebuilding it at this point since I don't have a backup.

Not sure if I should make a new thread or not but as long as I don't add the parity drive does it matter what order I put the data drives in? I honestly do not remember which drive went where.

No, it doesn't matter

Thank you.  Any suggestions on how to identify which one was my parity drive?

Start by assigning all the drives and start the array.  The one that shows as unformatted (there should only be one) will be the parity drive.  Now do a New Config; assign the data drives; start the array and check everything is as expected.    You can now stop the array: assign the parity drive; and restart the array to get the initial parity generated.

I see a typo which might be confusing. The parity drive will be unformated.

Checkdisk the usb on windows.

Got a new USB and plus.key (Thanks, Tom!).  All up and running now.  Thank you everyone for your help. Definitely going to backup my config now.

I always make it a policy to backup my flash any time I make a change to the array or settings. It is important to never use an old backup of your flash. For example, someone here got a new parity drive and re-used the old parity drive as a data drive. Sometime later they needed to restore their flash drive, but the backup they had didn't know about the drive changes, and when they started up unRAID began to write parity to the data drive that used to be parity.

Also, it is best to make the backup with the array stopped. If you share the flash, it is accessible with the array stopped. If your backup is made with the array started, and you try to start from that backup, unRAID will think that it didn't get shut down correctly last time and will do a correcting parity check.
