Pro key transfer from v5 to v6 on new USB stick

Featured Replies

Well,

I can't start docker or make changes...

I am wondering why I cannot start more than a parity drive and data drive as an array ( I have 8 other unassigned drives) along with a cache drive, then it occurred to me.

I looked in my flash device settings and I see that the USB device is unregistered. I had been reading about how to change or copy your current/original USB device to a new/different USB device, just copy all of the contents over or if one is starting with a different/new UnRaid version, copy over the .key.

I am a little confused. Can someone educate me. Please let me know how to register properly or how to administer my pro license to my 6b12? Do I need to submit the last 12 digits of my GUID and how do I do that?  :o

Thanks!

Camel

Where do you have your license file? There was a change made somewhere in the unRAID revisions that the license file must now be in a set location [/boot/config/ directory]. Before I think it was allowed to be at the root of the drive instead. Try moving it into the /boot/config directory and rebooting.

Woops, just noticed you meant a brand new device. On the unraid main screen, click on the word "flash", it should take you to a link such as [ http://tower/Main/Flash?name=flash ]. There is a line near the top that displays the GUID. Then you will have to send an email to LimeTech and wait for their response.

Your license is tied to the GUID of a particular USB device, so you cannot simply copy the contents of your current USB drive to another one and expect the license to transfer over.

Although they are not obligated to do so, Limetech have been very good about issuing a replacement license if the current USB device fails.  For this to happen you have to drop them an email explaining what has happened and giving the GUID of the replacement USB device.

I am not quite sure what you are trying to do.  Your subject seems indicates that you are attempting to use a .key file for one USB stick on another USB stick.  That will NOT work.  Each .key file is associated with specific GUID of a single USB stick.  If you use it with another USB stick, that stick will only allow the feature set for the Basic(Free) registration.

You can purchase a second key form LimeTech for $30.00 for that new USB stick.  They made the offer so that people like you who wanted to participate in the Beta program for ver 6.0 could use a separate USB stick to install the software on.  Here is the link to that offer:

The page is still active so I assume that the offer is still open.

I have my key in the config dir and forgot the key was tied to the usb guid. My head in too many directions. I realize now that if I use the same USB and just upgrade to v6 I will be fine...sort of...If I want to use my 5 key to upgrade to 6. ???

I appreciate the link for the second key! I have purchased it. This way I will not lose the stability of my UnRaid 5.0.6 server that I can use to backup my 4.7 server and play around with 6b12 so I can get kodi working. I'll be threading somewhere about that whole issue.

It seems so simple to ask a question when I get stuck and not able to find with a search. The forum always provides alternate answers that allows me to choose what suits me best. I should use it more but I hate to ask for help. One of my deficiencies I guess.

thank you all for your support!!
