What is the right command to shutdown, even with mysql?

I always use the powerdown button in unmenu user scripts.  But whenever I turn it back on, it starts parity checking.  I'm doing a lot of troubleshooting right now, and I don't want to start a parity check unnecessarily. 

 

I have mysql running.  Please suggest a command.  powerdown- is it safe to execute with mysql running?
