Slow File Transfer from PC to Server

Hey, guys. I'm wondering if anyone can come up with some idea as to what's going on with my setup. I just bought a new router -- Netgear Nighthawk AC1900. I used to have an old Belkin router. Anyway, I didn't change the way things are arranged. I have my modem plugged into the router, and the router plugged into a gigabit switch. My server is also connected to the switch. Whenever I transfer files to the server, I plug an ethernet cable into my laptop from the switch. Before I changed routers, my transfer speed was usually around 30 MB/s. For some reason, after the switch my speeds are only at about 3 or 4 MB/s.

 

Like I said, I didn't change anything about the setup. Just unplugged one router and plugged in the new one. I tried making sure that the ethernet local connection was prioritized over the wireless one, but it didn't change anything. At one point I unplugged the switch and changed the ports I was using, and it went back up to 30. But then about 20 minutes later it reverted to the slow speeds and I hadn't touched or changed anything. So if anyone has any ideas for things to troubleshoot or what the issue is, I'd appreciate it.

If both your server and the laptop are plugged into the switch, the router's not even involved in the transfer.

 

It sounds like the laptop is, for whatever reason, using the wireless connection instead of the wired one.  Next time you try to do a transfer, be sure you "Disconnect" the wireless connection on the laptop before you plug in the wired one.  [if the laptop has a switch to disable the wireless, just turn it off.]  That should resolve this.
