[CANADA] HP ML310e gen8 v2 Server (No drives) $260

Featured Replies

Hey folks,

So I impulse-bought one of these units for a friend, though I still have a few concerns as far as suitability for unRaid. I thought I'd post a heads up in the good deals forum for now, as looking around, most places are asking $500+ for one.

The cpu and a generic mobo alone would run over $200...

The specs are not bad for the price:

CPU: i3-4150

RAM: 2GB ECC

Controller: B120i

PSU: 350W

Bays: 4 internal 3.5", 2 external 5.25 (Can be converted with a cage to 3 more 3.5")

Assuming there are no incompatibility issues with unRaid and the hardware, I think it would make a great Plus-License system.

It comes with some HP specific software built into the system itself. From a quick read, I think it seems to provide some sort of IPMI functionality (Feel free to chime in if anyone has ever used this feature in an HP server)

I don't love that it's only 2GB of ram, so that might require an upgrade.

Also, a basic cage for the 5.25" slots goes for another $30 or so (no backplane etc, just a cage.). A fancier cage with trays generally goes for $70 to $100.

Here's the links:

Once I've played around with it, I'll report back here and make a more suitable thread in Hardware for posterity, but in case anyone in Canada was looking for what seems like a pretty good deal on a basic Plus system... here it is! :)

Cheers,!
