Sabnzbd/Sickbeard: Plugin vs. docker: Do they still force a D/L on every boot?

Featured Replies

Unfortunately, my internet service isn't a reliable as my power- meaning it's not unheard-of for my power to return looong before my internet.  To me, that's the PERFECT time to benefit from my server....but many's-the-time I've found myself- stuck...waiting for the download that will never come.  I could restart the boot in safe mode, bypassing the plugins, but then I have no PLEX.

I'm currently using the plugin version of both sabnzbd & Sickbeard, and both RE-download each time my server is restarted.  This ensures that both are the latest version- which is nice, but I want to eliminate that weakness in my setup.  I've spent a great deal of time amassing movies & shows, but that 'feature' ensures that I'm dependent on an internet connection to successfully restart my server fully.  (Without internet, the boot stalls forever as it tries to endlessly download new copies.)  The last time I checked, both the original Influencer plugins as well as Phaze's plugins worked identically in that respect.

I said all that to justify my desire to have a sabnzbd/sickbeard installation that won't hold my server hostage if no internet connection is available.

Have Phaze's plugins been updated to allow a restart to fall-thru if no internet connection is available?

Will docker versions change the scenario?  I wouldn't care if sabnzbd and/or sickbeard sat there patiently waiting...IF they didn't halt my restart while waiting.

Needo's dockers for Sabnzbd and Sickbeard don't automatically update, so that might solve part of your problem.  This strategy comes with it's own weakness, though, in that you're dependent on someone else to update the package... I'm not sure how the applications would fair if your internet connection was down as they started, I'll play with that if I have time.

The actual docker containers will NEVER re-download upon a reboot.

The application within the container may or may not auto-update themselves at their startup.  I only run 2 applications which have the ability to update within the container - Sonaar and CP - and I don't think that either will fail if internet is not available.

Also, plugins install / setup in sequence - Plugin "A" has to finish installing before plugin "B" starts, etc.

After containers are all setup, upon a reboot, they all start up in unison.  - Docker "A" starts running at the same time Docker "B" starts running - So, once Plex is up and running it really doesn't matter what any of the other containers are doing.

@johnny121b,

Phazes plugins now store a copy of the file on you USB and will use them for the install if your internet link is not up.
