Release: Folding@Home Docker

Recommended Posts

Once that is done you should see it in the logs and then be able to remotely configure it to add the GPU slot. However I could not get mine to actually fold. I have posted on the linuxserver.io but they don’t seem interested in helping. That whole support chain seems dedicated to Plex.

Added in, and deprecated CaptInsano's version.  TY

Thanks!  I removed the old version and added MobiusNine's version.   After passing the capabilities (all) and the GUID of the GPU, ensuring the config XML is correct.  As stated above, it looks like CUDA is not detected in this method as it was before (although it's worth noting that while it was detected in the CaptInsano version, it still didn't work either).

Edited this below to show the info in question, cleaned it up as there's a lot of stuff that doesn't apply.

I was able to get gpu folding working. The image needed to have opencl installed, which has been taken care of. Here are some logs showing it working.

Hmmm... still no luck here.  Are you passing ALL as the variable for the Driver Capabilities variable, or are you using Compute?

Still Shows Cuda Not Detected.

I am passing all as shown in the attached picture, and yes, the latest image is accessible through Community Apps. I wonder if using a quadro is causing some other sort of issue.

Yeah.  I'm daft.  I got it to work.  If you look at my screen grab, it shows you the problem.  When I tried to recreate from template it stuck in some junk in front of the description "CONTAINER VARIABLE:"

I deleted the whole thing.  Added it new (no custom configs) and when it started, stopped the container.  Edited it to add all the stuff back in for passthrough, clicked apply, and it fired right up.  Here's what mine now reports (and is folding without issue).

01:52:37:       GPUs: 1
01:52:37:      GPU 0: NVIDIA:4 GM107 [Quadro K2200]
01:52:37:       CUDA: 5.0
01:52:37:CUDA Driver: 10010

This is also on the 418.43 driver.

Edit:  It could have just been dumping it all and starting from scratch with a proper config POST download was what fixed it.  At least it's working now, and for that you get major props from me.  No more having to run a windows VM to GPU fold!

I'm glad to hear it! Also, after looking into it I don't think the version of Cuda that Folding at Home reports matters as the version of Cuda installed with the drivers in unraid seems to be the latest and the work is passed through to it. I could be wrong, but it works and I can't find anything to the contrary.

It's great to hear that this container has been forked and updated. I'd like to re-join the project using the new docker. Can I use my old appdata and pick up where I left off or do I have to start from scratch?

EDIT: I tried it anyway and you can indeed use the old appdata. It preserves your user name and team. There's also no problem with the new work units but I'm still seeing the "Loading..." problem in the GUI that I mentioned here:

Thanks for the update to this docker.

I have since installed the NVIDIA plugin.

And purchased a GT720 video card.(in PCIE 4 slot)

Working very well.

Happy unRAIDer.

Card does not support NVENC!

Does anyone else have a problem accessing the web UI for this container? Here's my log file.

It says the web server is at 192.168.1.1/24. Is that just what the docker container thinks it is? My router's local IP is 172.16.1.1 and my UnRaid server is 172.16.1.2.

Does anyone else have a problem accessing the web UI for this container? Here's my log file.

It says the web server is at 192.168.1.1/24. Is that just what the docker container thinks it is? My router's local IP is 172.16.1.1 and my UnRaid server is 172.16.1.2.

Yeah, it doesn't work.  You can still however control the instance via another client on your network and adding your server in the Advanced Control module

Out of the blue, a Reddit thread about this popped up and one user revealed an easy fix for the web UI. Just edit your /mnt/user/appdata/FoldingAtHome/config.xml file with the following:

<config>
  <!-- Client Control -->
  <fold-anon v='true'/>

  <!-- Folding Slot Configuration -->
  <cause v='CANCER'/>
  <gpu v='false'/>

  <!-- HTTP Server -->
  <allow v='[YOUR NETWORK IP]/24'/>

  <!-- Remote Command Server -->
  <password v='PASSWORD'/>

  <!-- Slot Control -->
  <power v='MEDIUM'/>

  <!-- User Information -->
  <passkey v=''/>
  <team v='227802'/>
  <user v='Anonymous'/>

  <!-- Web Server -->
  <web-allow v='[YOUR NETWORK IP]/24'/>

  <!-- Folding Slots -->
  <slot id='0' type='CPU'/>
</config>

Replace [YOUR NETWORK IP] with your local network. In my case, it's 172.16.1.0.

Then edit the docker container, go to "advanced settings" and set the "Web UI" field to exactly as follows (do not replace anything):

http://[IP]:7396

Next, clear your browser's cache and cookies before restarting the docker container. Web UI should now work as expected.

I'm folding with just my gpu, but I'm getting 100% cpu usage from fah. I've not seen this behavior from other fah installs (on windows). There should be some usage for feeding the gpu, but it shouldn't load up a whole core. Curious if anyone else is experiencing this.

<config>
  <!-- Client Control -->
  <fold-anon v='true'/>

  <!-- HTTP Server -->
  <allow v='192.168.1.0/24'/>

  <!-- Network -->
  <proxy v=':8080'/>

  <!-- Remote Command Server -->
  <password v=' '/>

  <!-- Slot Control -->
  <power v='full'/>

  <!-- User Information -->
  <passkey v=' '/>
  <team v='223518'/>
  <user v='rjlan'/>

  <!-- Web Server -->
  <web-allow v='192.168.1.0/24'/>

  <!-- Folding Slots -->
  <slot id='1' type='GPU'/>
</config>

Update: Using my old only nvidia card for my unraid install, apparently nvidia cards are notorious for using a whole core (per gpu). I'm still curious if others are experiencing the same

So a couple of questions - I have a Quadro P2000 - so can I put "all" in the NVIDIA capabilities field? What do I put in visible devices?

And then how do I know what it is using?

Finally, is there a beta FAH docker available so I can throw in on COVID?

Just cannot get this working with the "fix" above. I can't get to the web UI no matter what tinkering I do. Here's my config settings below:

<config>
  <!-- Client Control -->
  <fold-anon v='true'/>

  <!-- Folding Slot Configuration -->
  <gpu v='true'/>

  <!-- HTTP Server -->
  #Following allows access from local network
  <allow v='192.168.1.1/24'/>

  <!-- Remote Command Server -->
  #Change password for remote access
  <password v=''/>

  <!-- User Information -->
  #Change Team Number and Username if desired. Currently folding for UnRAID team!
  <team v='227802'/> <!-- Your team number (Team UnRAID is # 227802)-->
  <user v='NAME'/> <!-- Enter your user name here -->
  <passkey v='xxxxxxxxxxxxxx'/> <!-- 32 hexadecimal characters if provided (Get one here: http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/getpasskey.py)-->

  <!-- Web Server -->
  #Following allows access from local network
   <web-allow v='192.168.1.1/24'/>

  <!-- Slot Control -->
  <power v='MEDIUM'/>

  <!-- CPU Use -->
  <power v='medium'/>

  <!-- Folding Slots -->
  <slot id='0' type='CPU'/>
</config>

I can get the CPU to run, but GPU won't run due to not having OpenCL.

Any ideas here all?

It works for me. Did you add "--runtime=nvidia" to the extra parameters?
