What processors are you using?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am considering unRAID with the motherboard ASUS P5PE-VM and initially three disks, but I will probably upgrade to additional disks later. What processors are you using? Any idea of a good performance vs power trade-off for this setting? Would a Celeron do just fine? Anyone with experience in using them fanlessly, i.e. no processor fan - only the fan in the chassi?

I'm running that M/B with a Celeron 3.06Ghz CPU.  I haven't looked closely but it looks like it's just cruzing along TBH.

I went for this CPU because it was dirt cheap (< GBP30/USD55), plenty capable enough and fitted in the motherboard I had already decided I was going to use (the P5PE-VM).  As for your other questions, sorry, don't know, can't help.

HTH!

Thanx,

Thats the processor I am opting on. Do you use an attached processor fan or heatsink on the Celeron, or are you just cruizing without?

We initially used 2.0GHz Celerons, then went to 2.26GHz CeleronD's.  These are more than sufficient for unRAID application.

Regarding CPU heat sink - definitely don't try to run without one!  There are fans available though that are nearly, if not completely, silent.
