January 21, 201511 yr Just as the topic states, when I copy a file from my Windows 8.1 VM to my unRAID array the resulting file is set to read only permissions. The windows user is an Administrator account. unRAID I have left default when it comes to users, have not added anyone new. My shares are not password protected, etc. Open for anyone on the network. What am I missing in my set up?

What am I missing in my set up? Same with me. Anything written to UNraid server is read only. I think this happened on my Win7 also. Doesn't intrude on much or cause big problems, but a few small issues I deal with manually.
January 23, 201511 yr At least for me, under tools, run New Permissions. That fixed all my read-only issues from NTFS drives.
February 2, 201511 yr Author Thanks for the reply McCloud. The issue is not the files on the server being read only, it is the files being newly copied over are now Read only. The files that existed on the array had the proper permissions, just the new files getting a Read only once copied to the array. I'm going to run it just to see if it helps, but I'm not optimistic.

I had a couple thoughts. Are you copying to a user share or directly to a disk share? I don't know but maybe since your windows user is an unRAID admin there is a problem with permissions when copying. Maybe try a different windows user.
