Plex server cpu selection and motherboard ideas

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a choice between these two processors:

1)  Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40GHz

2)  Intel Xeon E5-1650 v3 @ 3.50GHz

they both benchmark really close to each other. I have no graphics needs so this doesn't factor into decision.

Plan on an unpaid plea server with multiple streams and heavy transcoding. Any advantage from one to the other. Would love to go higher but the cost jump is too big.

I plan on having a 15 drive case and eventually getting those drives. Any motherboard recommendations? Would like to add m.2 drive for cache if possible.

Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

ps.case will take any size motherboard

I'd use the Xeon and ECC memory.    The i7 doesn't support ECC.

Yup all else being equal i'd go ECC.
