Folders inside cache drive went "invisible"

Featured Replies

Hello all, all of a sudden, \\tower\cache folder is empty...... :-\

Everything is working...plex, transmission.....which are running from cache. I moved some movies to the array and they are still in cache bcs I can see it in "stats". But when I browse to the folder, it shows empty.

Any thoughts?

I am using V5.0.5

From telnet or console

ls -al /mnt/cache

Windows has a weird "feature" where it doesn't always update network folders consistently.  The easiest workaround I've found (when I KNOW that a folder is supposed to be there and its not showing up) is to create a new folder with explorer, navigate to the parent, and then go back.  Voila the missing folders show up.  Too lazy to look up the issue on the net right now.

Created a "New folder" inside cache with windows explorer. CLosed the window. Opened a new window, Navigated to \\Tower\cache\New Folder, hit back.... only the New folder shows

ok.. Maybe I misunderstood the OP.

Since they are in the root of the cache drive, they are considered to be SHARES.  Are they being exported? (edit: strike that - doesn't matter since you're navigating the \\tower\cache) BTW, you now have a share called NEW FOLDER

What is the path where the movies should be?

/cache/Movie Name, or /cache/Media/Movie name?

I should have that share called New folder. It is not in shares yet because MOVER has not started yet..

NEW movies are supposed to be in /cache/Media/Moviename...if I try to browse to \\tower\cache\Media......I get network error from windows  "Windows cannot access...............

Then it sounds like its not that they are invisible, more like a permission issue. Try running new permissions from the tools menu.

Or the user doesn't have access to that share

Cache is set to "Public"

If I go to \\tower\appdata it shows the folders inside it, and appdata "should" be inside the cache drive bcs the plugins point to /mnt/cache/appdata, and the plugins are working fine.

No idea unless the permissions are messed up on the folders.  Try running new permissions

How do I do that?

unRaid Tools Menu then New Permissions

or, from the console

newperms /mnt/cache

Any folder at the root of cache is a share. Doesn't matter whether mover has run. Also doesn't matter how it was created or if it is marked cache-only or not.

I thought it wold become a share once mover moved it. Anyways. Ran permissions...nothing changed. What is weird is that mover worked last night....it moved the "invisible" movies from the cache drive but the New folder is still in /mnt/cache, and there is no share called New movies....

Next time you have this issue,  post of screen shot of what you see in windows, and go into the console and post the output of

ls -l /mnt/cache/Media

(Change the path appropriately)

See the picture below.

IT seems that there is a folder inside "cache" called "cache" /mnt/cache/cache/New folder

So I ran rm -rf /mnt/cache/cache to delete the second folder "cache"

From windows explorer \\tower\cache......shows "This folder is empty"

????? :-\

Back to command, what do the dates shown mean?

It sounds like instead of sharing the cache drive, you have somehow created a share named cache and that is what you are seeing in Windows

Yes, but after deleting the other share named cache, I cannot access the real cache share

Have you rebooted after removing the conflicting share?

There is no "real" cache share. You have to share the cache drive like you share any other drive if you want to access it. Click on the cache drive from the Main page and it will take you to a page with the cache drive's SMB Security settings.

What are we supposed to be looking at here?  There's no downloads folder showing on the screen?  Attach the wrong picture?
