Export Read Only not making things read only...

Featured Replies

I'm still using the free version (4.3.3 I believe), but am rapidly approaching the need for another drive so I'll likely be going pro soon.

Anyway, currently when I export disk or folder shares, my choice is completely ignored. If I say to export absolutely everything as read only, I can still copy and delete files from any system connecting to the server (ex: from a Mac, Command+K, smb://library, login as Guest -- can still copy to, delete from, etc). Does anyone know if this is an issue with the unraid version I am using or if it is something that must be resolved by purchasing the pro key (and thus gaining access to user shares and forcing a computer to login as a specific user)?

Thanks!

Interesting... nobody's ever reported that ability, but then, most would not think to check.

As far as which version... the permissions on network shares are controlled by SAMBA.  Your version of unRAID is about 8 versions old.

As of 4.5-beta4 the samba version has been upgraded/replaced three times with newer versions.  If I were you I'd upgrade to 4.5-beta4 first, then see if the issue still exists and report it to Tom.  (Especially since 4.5-beta5 is due out shortly)  The upgrade for you is only the replacement of 2 files on the flash drive and rebooting.  (download new version to your PC, un-zip, copy new bzimage and bzroot files to flash drive, reboot)

You can even rename the existing two files to bzroot.433 and bzimage.433 first, and that way you can revert easily if need be by renaming them back to their original names and rebooting.

I guess I'll definitely be attempting an upgrade again. The last time I tried was to a 4.4 beta and the system refused to complete its startup process (there's a thread on that). I ended up going the lazy route and reverting back to 4.3.3 so I wouldn't have to deal with it. Now that I am nearing the completion of my home theater dream, I don't want to be accidentally deleting my own 1080p conversions from my Blu-ray discs (when pass 1 goes realtime and pass 2 runs at 6.5fps, redoing encodes is not on my agenda) while in Windows Media Center.

When I get around to the upgrade (I might just wait for 4.5 final), I'll try to post back and see if the problem goes away.
