rdnkjdi
Just an FYI - something with Rsync appears to be broken in the newest version. I had rsync running fine from version 4.4.2 - when I upgraded to 4.5b6 it found the host, but would not copy. I put the old version back on the flash drive, rebooted & viola - worked again. I am using DeltaCopy and syncing from a Windows server. I have a lot to do today - but will try to do more diagnostics later... Link to comment
NAS
Have a look at crashplan. I was a rsync fan and had a complex setup using it. I now have moved to crashplan. There is a thread about it. Link to comment

str1der
Looking for help please. I have developed a problem. I have a share called movies. I have it set for read/write. I'm using it with a Popcorn Hour. It was working fine. Today I was moving and adding a lot of files. During one such copy I got a permisson denied. No idea why. A reboot of that machine and I was back to normal. The problem is when I try to access that share with my Popcorn Hour I get a cannot proccess request. According to their forums that usually is caused by a permissions issue. I can access all other shares fine except the one I was doing all the activity on. I've tried unexporting then exporting again, changed it to read only, rebooted both the tower and the popcorn hour multiple times to know avail. I could really use some help with this. I'm able to access the share fine from my PCs just not from the Popcorn which uses linux. It worked fine before. Link to comment
str1der
I'm thinking I want to go back to 4.4 . Is there a write up about how to fallback? Link to comment
Joe L.
Just unzip the older release on your PC and then copy the bzroot and bzimage files from the older release to the flash drive, over-writing the two newer ones from 4.5beta6 and then reboot. Yo can rename the existing files to bzroot.456 and bzimage.456 first. That way you can go back to the current release. simply by re-naming them, if you discover the older release has the same issues with connectivity to your media player. Joe L. Link to comment

Fell back but still have the issue on the one share as mentioned in my post above. Any ideas? I did not think it would do anything, but did not want to dissuade you from trying. You might double-check the share is read/write visible, and not read-write hidden in your config. Once you get that checked... if it is a permissions thing, we need to understand how the media player logs onto the server. Does it use anonymous login? Or does it log in as "guest" ? Or some other user? When you were copying the files and had your "permission denied" error, what were you using to copy the files? If it is a permissions issue, you can fix them, but first check the other items. At the linux command prompt, after loggin in on the system console, you can recursively change the permissions on the files and directories, but first we need to learn what they are now. type: ls -al /mnt/user and let's see what the top level permissions look like. str1der
Something I just noticed. The other thing I was doing yesterday is a massive conversion of my video_ts folders to ISOs . When I did that ls command at the next level /mnt/user/movies I noticed that any directory that had a new iso created in it has different permissions. See below. For instance /TRON is one that I converted. Could this be causing the issue? If so how would I change all the rights at once? drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 TARZAN\ (1999)/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 TARZAN\ And\ JANE/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 160 Jun 23 2008 TERMINATOR\ 2/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 160 Jun 23 2008 TERMINATOR\ 3/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 29 2008 THE\ ANT\ BULLY/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 THE\ BOURNE\ IDENTITY/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 THE\ CARE\ BEARS\ MOVIE/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 160 May 28 2008 THE\ DARK\ CRYSTAL/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 128 Dec 15 2008 THE\ DARK\ KNIGHT/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 160 May 3 2008 THE\ GOLDEN\ COMPASS/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 104 Apr 30 2008 THE\ GOONIES/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 THE\ INCREDIBLE\ MR.\ LIMPET/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 128 Feb 13 17:56 THE\ MUMMY\ TOMB\ OF\ THE\ DRAGON / drwx--x--x 1 root root 104 Apr 30 2008 THE\ NEVERENDING\ STORY/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 THE\ PRINCESS\ BRIDE/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 THE\ RETURN\ OF\ THE\ KING/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 THE\ ROAD\ TO\ EL\ DORADO/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 THE\ RUGRATS\ MOVIE/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 104 Apr 30 2008 THE\ SANTA\ CLAUSE/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 104 Apr 30 2008 THE\ SANTA\ CLAUSE\ 2/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 160 Jun 27 2008 THE\ SPIDERWICK\ CHRONICLES/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 THE\ WIZARD\ OF\ OZ/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 104 Apr 30 2008 TMNT/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 TOMMY\ BOY/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 128 Apr 1 16:14 TOY\ Story/ drwx------ 1 root root 72 Aug 5 11:33 TRON/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 416 Aug 6 19:08 Taken/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 Talladega\ Nights/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 29 2008 The\ ARISTOCATS/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Adventures\ of\ Baron\ Munch ausen/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Adventures\ of\ Elmo\ in\ Gr ouchland/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Bells\ of\ St.\ Mary's/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Book\ of\ Pooh\ Stories\ Fro m\ the\ Heart/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Bourne\ Supremacy/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 144 Apr 30 2008 The\ Bourne\ Ultimatum/ drwx------ 1 root root 144 Aug 6 13:41 The\ Chronicles\ of\ Narnia/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Court\ Jester/ drwx------ 1 root root 96 Aug 5 15:29 The\ EMPERORS\ NEW\ GROOVE/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 104 Apr 30 2008 The\ Fifth\ Element/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 144 Apr 30 2008 The\ Game\ Plan/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Great\ Mouse\ Detective/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Great\ Outdoors/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Happy\ Elf/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Haunted\ Mansion/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Hunchback\ of\ Notre\ Dame/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Hunchback\ of\ Notre\ Dame\ II/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Hunt\ For\ Red\ October/ drwx------ 1 root root 88 Aug 5 11:59 The\ Incredibles/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ JUNGLE\ BOOK\ 2/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 104 Apr 30 2008 The\ Jerk/ drwx------ 1 root root 88 Aug 5 14:11 The\ Jungle\ Book/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Karate\ Kid/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Land\ Before\ Time/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 144 Apr 30 2008 The\ Last\ Starfighter/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 104 Apr 30 2008 The\ Legend\ of\ Zorro/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Lion\ King/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Lion\ King\ 1\ and\ a\ half/ drwx------ 1 root root 104 Aug 5 11:58 The\ Lion\ King\ II\ Simba's\ Pri de/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Little\ Mermaid/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 136 Apr 30 2008 The\ Little\ Mermaid\ II\ Return\ to\ the\ Sea/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 104 Apr 24 2008 The\ Lord\ of\ the\ Rings\ The\ F ellowship\ of\ the\ Ring\ Disc\ 1/ drwx--x--x 1 root root 104 Apr 24 2008 The\ Lord\ of\ the\ Rings\ The\ F Link to comment
BRiT
Any ideas? I haven't tried this on the user filesystem and not certain if I have the escaping correct, so not sure how it would perform. You may need to do this on your individual disks. This should give you an idea how to change directory permissions. find /mnt/user/movies -type d -exec chmod go+x {} \; Link to comment
Joe L.
It is easy enough to set all the permissions. To get all the permissions on the directories to where they are browesable, they need "execute" bit set and the "read" bit set. find /mnt/disk* -type d -exec chmod 755 {} \; To set the file permissions to where they are consistently readable and writable type: find /mnt/disk* -type f -exec chmod ugo+rw {} \; Link to comment
str1der
Any idea why my files are getting like this? Can these issues only be issued on the disks or can they be issued on the shares? Link to comment

oconnellc
Look at the files in your windows explorer. I was having problems accessing files (not with popcorn hour, but with Media Monkey) and I had set permissions to 777 many times. I noticed that when looking at the files in windows explorer, they were showing up as 'hidden'. I used a tool called 'FILO' to change that and the problems went away (I haven't upgraded, so my issue was unrelated to the new version of unraid). Chris Link to comment
str1der
I figured it out. I guess I had a corrupted file in the root of the share. Removed that and everything is ok. Link to comment
SuperW2
Stuff from user shares missing, but files still exist on drives... So I have a "Backup" user share that is defined as Disk1-16 for included disks....These is where I keep all my system backup, some restore apps, and a misc dumping ground for anything that's not a movie, tv show or music file that I keep in separate shares. I map the user shares to my various Windows Pc's and have had no real issues. The other day, went to copy some stuff to my "backup" user share and it was EMPTY... I started poking around at the individual disk shares and the files still exist in "backup" folders across multiple disks, but still don't show up in the user shares. I checked the Unraid console and there has been no change to the disk include information and I haven't touched those share definitions in a long time. Also, it is "normal", while playing ANY type of media file (DVD, MKV Movie, etc), I basically can't do anything that touches the unRAID server otherwise get SERIOUS stuttering. Even clicking on a share in Windows will bring the video to a standstill. I'm running GIG Network everywhere, and think I have a fairly OK setup with fast drives and decent SATA performance. Normal? I've been on the 4.5 Betas for so long, I can't really remember if it did it before with the 4.4.x versions. SW2 Link to comment

SW2 The first thing to try when the User Share system seems to have any 'confusion' is to shut down and reboot. That re-creates the entire User Share file system from scratch. If that hasn't improved the operation, then you know it is something in the configuration, or in the permissions somewhere, or possibly strange files or folders in the root. For the performance issues, you might provide a syslog, perhaps someone will spot something there. But if you don't mind, could you start a separate thread for it? I assume you meant "Disk1-15" for included disks? Sorry for a technicality check, but sometimes a tiny mis-config could also create file system confusion. Link to comment

No I have the include for this share set @ "Disk1-16", not 1-15...I was under the impressions one of the adds to the 4.5, or at least one of the subsequent betas was support for more drives... I have my parity plus 16 Data Drives, plus an eSATA cache drive for a total of 18... Thanks for the reply RobJ! Wade Link to comment

RobJ
As noted, you are running 16 data drives which is a beta feature. You are also using NFS support, another beta feature, which certainly qualifies you for posting in this beta thread! Those are 2 of the only 3 features (the other being Active Directory support) that I would consider still unstable, from user reports of issues. It is possible therefore that you are running into a problem involving the beta support for either the increased drive count or the NFS support, but I see no actual errors related to either in the syslog. Perhaps a longer syslog covering a period where you hammer the server with stutter producing actions, might reveal something further. (copied from other thread) I responded in your other thread (found here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=4151), thank you for that, but since you are using 2 beta features, possibly suspect, you probably should continue here. I like your red highlight box with shadow, what tool do you use? One tip I use for capturing wide screens, drag your browser's right edge way in, enough to narrow the screen capture to better fit the screen size of other users, but not so narrow that it crowds the columns too much. Then capture the screen, then drag the edge back. Link to comment

Ok, so I moved the Included Disks to 1-15 and removed the NSF Export (which I wasn't using for this share anyhow)... rebooted the UnRaid and see nothing different (95% of the \Backup\ contents on the disk shares not showing up on "Backup" user share). Can I remove the share and recreate without losing all of the data I have in the individual \backup\ folders on each of the disk shares... I have a few hundred GB of stuff in there, so it won't be easy to move it around manually Link to comment
