[SOLVED] Upgraded 4.7 -> 5.0.6 and have extra shares?!

Featured Replies

finally got around to upgrading my 4.7 to 5.0.6 and everything went just fine.  However, I now have a share for each drive as well as the Shares I created.  Is this normal for 5.0.x?

Before upgrade my shares were:

DVD

Photos

BluRay

Music

Misc

Backup

Now  I have extra shares, which are functional:

Disc1

Disc2

...

Disc12

Those shares are direct access to your individual drives

You can disable them (or hide them) by clicking on the drive and then changing the export settings.

Thanks for the quick reply.  I actually don't mind having them, just wanted to make sure that was normal.

Thanks!

Yes, they're normal -- the disk shares are simply exported by default and, as noted, you can easily disable them if you should ever choose to do so.

There are actually times when it's best to use the disk shares instead of the "user shares" [if you are moving data around on the individual disks], but for most purposes you don't need to use them.

Note also that if you don't want to "see" the disk shares all the time when you browse your network, you can change them to "Export - Hidden" ... and then you won't see them when you browse, but you can still access them via \\Tower\Diskx
