February 7, 201511 yr Hi, I'm looking at either the Norco RPC-450B that has 5 bay disk cages or the Rosewill RSV-R4000 with 4 bay disk cages. It's been my past experience that X5 cages don't cool as well as X4 cages because the drives are close together. The Rosewill RSV-L4500 also has 5 bay cages. I'd prefer the RPC-450B since it's not as deep. What drive temps are you seeing with the RPC-450 or the RSV-R4000 when the hard drives cages are full? I assume that I can add a third cage to the RPC-450 for a total of 15 drives. http://www.ipcdirect.net/hard-drive-cage-for-rpc-450-rpc-470/ Thanks.
February 7, 201511 yr I used to use an RPC-470 which had two of those cages installed. As I recall, my temperatures during a parity check never went over ~34oC I would think that the RSV-L4500 is comparable. If you look closely at the pictures for the 450, you will see that you cannot add that particular cage into the middle area without some major modifications to the case (drilling out mounting holes, cutting off the usb and switches, etc) That cage is designed as a replacement for the existing cages. But, TBH you really should consider going to a cheap hot swap case instead of either of those cases. The reason I stopped using my 470 was that I was sick and tired of everytime I replaced a drive, half of the other ones didn't work properly because with 10+ drives in a case, you can and will slightly knock the other connectors around and run into problems. You can get a RSV-L4411 or L4412 for not too much more money, but you will be stuck at 12 drives.
