March 6, 201511 yr That is a hard pill to swallow. HGST NAS 3tb daily price is $125. So to get the extra tb requires a worse drive, 1 year warranty, and unknown shuck, and alot of DOA's, but thats par for the course for newegg.

(is it just the lower warranty?). There is a case and more parts. why does this equate to a cheaper price???
March 6, 201511 yr You're comparing retail pack external single drive to retail pack internal single drive. Externals are the volume product, hence lower pricing. Be sure to compare the same drive, as almost all externals will be low power models, but internals tend to be higher performance models (5400rpm vs 7200rpm, green vs black, etc.). Warranty does have a price, but you can find both internals and externals with 1yr and 3yr. Bare drives in bulk are cheaper, packaged in boxes of 30 or more. They have no cables, screws, etc. Which leads to all shipping/packaging complaints when not buying full packs. There was a time period where bare drives in bulk were not available and thus externals were the lower cost option.

Well, I saw and keep seeing a lot of externals packing exactly same drive, but cheaper.
