May 12, 200917 yr Wasn't sure if I should post this here because it's related to 4.5... This has been happening for a little while now but didn't think anything of it until now. I read elsewhere in the forum that people were suffering the exact same issues as I in terms of writing to our cache drives through our user shares. For instance with 4.5 beta 6: If I write a movie to '\\Tower\Media\Movies' I would receive a write speed of 12-15MB/s (I was getting 8-10MB/s with the older IDE drive I had in that I just relaced) If I write a movie directly to '\\Tower\Cache\Media\Movies' I receive a write speed in the range of 30-50MB/s I'd expect these speeds if I was writing directly to the parity protected array but not when I'm sending it to the cache drive first to be moved over later... My setup is this: Corsair 550VX PSU Abit AB9 Pro motherboard Celeron 440 CPU 4GB Crucial 5300 DDR2 Memory Old VGA video card that I never use 2x Rosewill PCI-Ex1 RC-213 SATA controller cards 2GB Sandisk Micro Cruzer USB Flash drive 5x Seagate 7200.11 1TB SATA Hard drives 1x Western Digital RE2-GP 1TB SATA Hard drive 1x 500GB Maxtor SATA Hard drive 1x 640GB Western Digital Caviar 640GB SATA Hard drive for cache I have 1 drive on each of the Rosewill cards, and the rest is connected to the onboard SATA connectors along with the cache drive. My setup is pretty basic with unMenu installed and a 3 main shares setup Media, Backups and Software. I'll upload a syslog when I get home. This problem was also occurring for me in 4.5 beta 4... soooo I don't know what that says. Here's the syslog: http://www.charlesjorourke.com/hosting/syslog1.zip
May 13, 200917 yr Author If anyone is concerned with this issue, please refer back to the 4.5 beta6 thread - http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=3764.msg33094#msg33094 - since it has been noticed and is being worked on for the next beta (hopefully an easy fix).
