May 16, 200917 yr Hi all....i am running v 4.0.x...i never upgraded beyond that since it works so well as it is...my question(s) is this: if i were to power down the array...remove one or both of the data HD (not the parity drive)... could i install it into another computer and expect to be able to read the data? i know unraid uses the reiser file system...would the computer i put the drive in have to be capable of reading reiser? would i be able to pull off the data and copy to another HD? i know it seems weird to be trying to do this this way but for various reasons i would like to do it this way if it will work. my setup is simple: unraid 4.0xxx 500gb parity sata 500gb disk 1 500gb disk 2 movies is the share and dvd's were backed up to disk 1 until it was about 85% full then i chose disk 2 as the destination for any subsequent data. it is about 30% full now. i mention this because i am pretty sure none of my movies spanned both HD which if i am correct may present another problem. any suggestions or warning would be appreciated...i dont have alot of experience with linux or unraid...i built this over 2 years ago and it has worked so well i almost never touch it
May 17, 200917 yr The best I can offer as an answer is the FAQ entry, "How do I recover data from an unRAID disk?", and see the very last item, "Connect your disk ...". In unRAID, no files span disks, so no problems there.
