March 1, 201511 yr http://www.oemproduction.com/storage/NAS860N10.asp Wonder if just the case is available? Looks like mini-ITX at the bottom, hoping some fans, PS, room for a PCI card? Dimensions are tiny.... This looks like one awesome case, if it exists for buying as a case and has mini-itx at the bottom!!! At ~8"x~8"x~12"... it almost doubles the capacity (10 drives) say compared to iStarUSA, or any other mini-itx case with almost similar dimension. How do I get my hands on one of these???
March 1, 201511 yr the documentation is ambiguous, is it 2.5" drives or 3.5" drives? I suspect the former.
March 1, 201511 yr It looks like an extruded tube case with whatever height and opening size they want. A better photo gallery of their storage products: http://www.oemproduction.com/products/ministor.asp
March 1, 201511 yr This appears to be the commercial side of the house. http://www.polywell.com/us/index.asp
March 2, 201511 yr Author Tried to email them to see if the case was available separately, no reply yet (shocker).
March 2, 201511 yr the documentation is ambiguous, is it 2.5" drives or 3.5" drives? I suspect the former. Just looking at advertised capacity, it is definitely 3.5" drives.
March 2, 201511 yr Looks like 2.5" in the picture at the bottom right, do 4TB 2.5" drives exist? The dimensions look like they are 2.5" as well by my eye, but I might be wrong. As on their website it is indeed in the 3.5" High Capacity HD Series section. In the description at the bottom it does say 3.5" though doesn't it.
March 2, 201511 yr Unless you're buying 5,000 units it's not clear you can buy it at all. It's apparently sold as a NAS with a system board already installed (I'd assume it's mini-ITX, but that's not actually stated) ... but that was an early configuration that's since been modified for a different drive orientation. The "NAS-only with no drives" version was sold by Newegg (no longer available): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856205026 (Note the difference in the drive orientation from the newer version) A fully populated version with the newer drive orientation is sold by Polywell with either 10 3TB drives ($2,599) or 10 4TB drives ($3,799): http://www.polywell.com/us/storage/MiniStor860N10.asp It'd indeed be nice if the bare case is available -- hopefully Polywell will respond favorably to your e-mail request
