GUID Partition Table on parity disk?

Featured Replies

Last night I started getting this error in my syslog:

Mar  1 09:51:24 Tower unmenu[1238]: WARNING: GPT (GUID Partition Table) detected on '/dev/sdb'! The util fdisk doesn't support GPT. Use GNU Parted. (Minor Issues)

/dev/sdb is my parity disk. I know it says "Minor Issues" but how did this happen and should I do anything about it?

Thanks.

Do NOT do anything about it.

The likely reason it has that signature is because that's what the parity information based off all your other drives look like. Nothing wrong with this at all. Do not do anything to change it. Let your system continue to work as normal.

Ha!  I didn't think about that.  So maybe the value of the parity in the boot sector happens to be the value for a GPT?

Thanks.

Ok, I checked today and now four disks have the same GPT warning.  Somehow I don't think this is coincidence.  Does anyone else know how this could happen?

As I recall, the messages themselves are harmless.  Its been a long time since I ran unmenu, but I seem to recall that any time you went to "My Main" the syslog would get those errors for any drive >2.2 TB

I think that's correct -- but I also think it's been resolved in a later update of MyMain.

Are you running the latest version of UnMenu? ... and if so, have you checked for and applied any updates?  (on the User Scripts page)

I believe so: Version 1.6 Revision: 278.

However, I just ran "check for unMENU updates" on the User Scripts page and then

Install unMENU Updates and I got this:

Downloading myMain_local.conf

If I am reading this right, it do not install the updates?

I then clicked "Restart unMenu" and then rechecked for updates and I get the same messages.

Not sure how to update now.

Interesting ... I don't recall seeing that when doing update on UnMenu.  You might try rebooting the server (although simply restarting UnMenu should be all that's needed)
