March 3, 201511 yr Hi, I am trying to get a ruby script running on my unraid box. From my understanding unraid is running slackware 14.1, I need Ruby 2+, and that isnt supported on Slackware 14.1. So my question is, can someone recommend a distro that is lightweight that can do this? As well is there a tutorial somewhere on how to get this running? I have tried creating my own through the KVM plugin, and also tried one from the sticky here. But I am not really sure what to do with it all. Thanks for any tips

Can you give us some more information on what the script is designed to do?
March 3, 201511 yr Author Thanks for the response, I dont have a VM running, havent been able to get that far. Just the nice plugin that is stickied at the top of the forum. I tried to get MintLinux going from an .iso and havent had any luck, also tried arch linux, also no luck. The script I am trying to implement is here : https://github.com/chendo/lifx-http I checked for any dockers that might contain ruby 2+ or the above script, or even anything like it and didnt have much luck. This is my first attempt at running a VM so I am lost - as you can tell.

This is my first attempt at running a VM so I am lost - as you can tell. No worries. We will get you squared away. First and foremost, do you have a network bridge setup? Go to the settings page and if you have no bridge setup there, turn that on. It is required. After that, give it another whirl and let me know if its still not working for you.
March 4, 201511 yr Author In my research I did see that. The box for network bridge said something to the effect of it left blank it works use the default bridge. So I left it as is. In the instructions for arch-linux it did specify that needed setup. I was hoping that the default would be the correct choice. So short story long. Its on but not configured beyond default.
March 4, 201511 yr Author So I managed to get the arch-linux package that is from Appliances section of this forum doing something.... But now I dont know if it is even working correctly, or how do I access the machine? Thanks

March 4, 201511 yr Author Hi, thanks sorry should have mentioned I did that. When I click "Start Domain" the page refreshes and nothing else happens. Still have the red/orange ball beside the Machine name that says "shutoff" when I mouseover.
March 4, 201511 yr What version of V6 are you using because it's really simple to create VMs in beta12 onwards which is where I started. If you're using Beta 12 or up I'll guide you through creating Linux Mint as I've done that myself. Might help give you an idea how to go about it. Let me know mate. Here's the general idea
March 4, 201511 yr Thanks! I am using beta13 See my post above, just edited and stuck a screenshot in there for you fella.
March 4, 201511 yr Just a thought, you do have hardware that is compatible with virtualisation right? And it's all turned on in the bios etc?
March 4, 201511 yr Author Thanks! I am using beta13 See my post above, just edited and stuck a screenshot in there for you fella. Thanks, downloading the exact release you did now, so that everything is exactly the same. Will let you know how it goes!
March 4, 201511 yr Author Ok, so I do exactly as you have there. Click "Create VM" page refreshes back to default and there is nothing under Virtual Machines. Under settings if I click restart VirtControl it gets stuck on Starting libvirtd... I am assuming this is probably the root of my problem?
March 4, 201511 yr So something is definitely not right Just to check as you didn't answer before: Your hardware is virtualisation compatible? Probably best to post your hardware setup so we can look it over.
March 5, 201511 yr Author Sorry I missed your post about the hardware. Here is what I am running: Kingston 4gb ddr3 ram CORSAIR CX series CX430 430W ATX12V v2.3 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply ASRock 880GM-LE AM3 AMD 880G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard AMD Athlon II X2 260 Regor Dual-Core 3.2GHz Socket AM3 65W Desktop Processor ADX260OCGMBOX I tried looking up if any of these would cause problems, I havent had much success.
March 5, 201511 yr Author I was just poking around in the unraid settings. I found under the network settings that I didnt have the option for "setup bridge" turned on. I turned it on and I got mint cinnamon running. Thanks! I am sorry if this was already suggested. I thought it was meant in the KVM settings, not unraids.

Cool, glad you got there, don't worry about it, I find most of my issues are silly little things I overlooked or messed up, sometimes you just need a pointer in the right direction. See the thread on passing through Intel NIC cards a couple down for an example of my mistakes!
