can't run unraid main menu from browser

Featured Replies

Something strange happened earlier today. I'm running unRAID v5.0.5 (I think, but am not sure because of a problem running the main menu from my browser).

I was doing some basic file management from one of the computers on my network. I have the unRAID users set so that I'm the only user with read/write permissions, so I normally don't have any problems with disk management - writing and deleting files. However, I was trying to delete a folder and Windows reported an error and wouldn't let me delete it because of a problem with permissions. I'm not sure what changed because I didn't have this problem a few minutes earlier while working in a different folder on the server. Using my browser, I ran the unRAID main menu and checked to see if the permissions had changed - they didn't. Then I navigated to the folder to see if there was something out of the ordinary - there wasn't. Then while poking around, my browser window just stopped displaying the unRAID menu and reported the web page is unavailable. So I decided to try myMenu and was able to poke around again. I could see that the folder in question had files on a couple different drives. Using this info, I used PuTTY to open a telnet session and navigate to the 2 different disks and deleted the folder from the server. This is how I was able to remove the folder and get around the network permissions problem.

After doing this, I can no longer monitor my unRAID setup using either the unRAID main menu or myMenu from my browser. I have tried using different computers on my networks. I normally use Chrome. I also tried IE.

I can still use Windows to navigate my unRAID server. I can play media files from the server, etc., so it seems to be fine. I just can't run the menus from my browser. Any recommendations for getting these browser utilities working again?

Should I manually stop the array and reboot the server? If so, how do you do this from a telnet session?

Text compresses very well. Have you tried zipping it?

Just a few more details.

My unRAID server has an Abit AB9 Pro motherboard. This motherboard has onboard dual PCI-E gigabit LAN controllers (Realtek). I've tried replacing the ethernet cable (which has worked fine for several years), I've also tried using the other LAN port and different positions on my 8-port Netgear switch. I'd try connecting it to a different port on my router (ASUS RT-N56U), but the router is too far away from the switch so it isn't easy to just swap out cables. Everything else on my home network is communicating just fine.

When the unRAID server is connected to the LAN1 port, the LED light is orange (1 GB/sec) and the activity LED is blinking. When it is connected to the LAN2 port, the LED light is green (100 MB/sec) and the activity light also blinks. On the Netgear switch port, only one LED lights when connected to either port on the motherboard. When the ethernet cable is connected to the LAN2 port, with the green LED, I can't access my unRAID server over the network from another computer. I don't know if LAN2 is enabled without rebooting the server and running the BIOS setup. Might it be enabled since the LED activity light for LAN2 blinks when connected? I think they are both supposed to be 1 GB/sec ports, so I don't know why LAN2 isn't.

After reconnecting the original ethernet cable and attached to the LAN1 port (with the orange LED, 1 GB/sec), both LEDs are lit on the Netgear switch, which must mean it is working in full duplex mode (?) and able to perform at 1 GB/sec.

Post the result of this from telnet:

ps aux | grep emhttp

Also, to see what your unRAID thinks of your connection

ethtool eth0

OK, this is really strange...

I just tried running the unRAID Main menu and the MyMain plugin menu from my browser and suddenly they work.

Any idea why they stopped working and now are fine??

No. I used to have to wait a while on occasion when I was running v5 also.

Your results above showed that emhttp, the web interface, was still running, and that you have full duplex GB connection. You probably already guessed that.
