Recovering data from dead cache drive (unraid 5)

Featured Replies

hey guys,

My latest failure has been a 8 year old cache drive.  Is there a way to recover files from it?  When I attempt to recover files using something like iCare Data Recovery it can find some old files.

The main thing I want to recover is the apps directory on this drive.  The iCare Data Recovery app is automatically categorizing the files into different groups (i.e., videos, images etc) and this is useless for recovering the directory.

I'm not sure how to proceed since the drive was formatted with the default filesystem in unraid (reiserfs).  What are my other options?

During my latest failure I came across UFS Explorer Standard Recovery which recognized the reiserfs file system, rebuilt it and recovered everything it could.

Saves me about 2TB of data out of 3TB.  Wasn't perfect but certainly better than a full loss.

Check it out as it may help you.

Did you attach your drive via SATA or USB?  It doesn't seem to recognize the drive when it's attached via my usb adapter.

Thanks for the link

I attached it via USB 3.0 using the Thermaltake BlacX Duet 5G dock.
