You might possibly be able to resurrect it, but given the age of the drive, I think the best course of action is to use this drive as a door stop. I hope all your other drives are healthy, because this drive will very likely cause a failure to rebuild on any other dead drive in the array. It needs to be out of the array ASAP.

I hope all your other drives are healthy, because this drive will very likely cause a failure to rebuild on any other dead drive in the array. It needs to be out of the array ASAP. While I generally agree with the diagnosis, I feel it necessary to point out that although there were a lot of pended sectors, not a single one of them has been actually reallocated. 5 Reallocated_Sector_Ct 0x0033 200 200 140 Pre-fail Always - 0 I have seen this type of behavior before, and found that a parity check (complete re-read of the disk) can sometimes clear all or most of the currently pending sectors without reallocating any of them. I chock this up to some type of firmware bug that is pending sectors inappropriately. If successful, in my experience, this is not a sign of a failing disk. Maybe a long shot, but worth a shot I think. The offline uncorrectable is not good - but if it held steady I'm not sure I'd kick the disk for that. The failed test at 90% can be caused by the drive being spun down by the host OS in the middle of the test.
March 9, 201511 yr The failed test at 90% can be caused by the drive being spun down by the host OS in the middle of the test. It would say aborted by host. There's an LBA read failure. no question about it.

I wouldn't even use preclear. I would get my data off this drive. I would use badblocks in write mode doing the 4 pass pattern test. (once the drive is removed from the array) i.e. badblocks -svw /dev/sd? Keeping in mind this will erase the drive. The final state of the drive is zeroed. i.e. ready for preclear signature. If those 1105 sectors were reallocated, I might use the drive as a scratch drive. I would surely be looking at retiring it soon.
March 9, 201511 yr Author Thanks guys. While it's not good news...it was wholly expected. Just wanted the confirmation of the experts. As always...mucho gracias!
March 23, 201511 yr Author UPDATE- Got a new 3T, and replaced previous old/failing drive (SDC). After re-build, things look like this: Looks like SDB is in bad shape too. What are the chances, I'm going to lose data?

Or let me better ask this: how do you guys actually check for lost data?? This doesn't look good, but not sure you have lost data. I would try to get the data off as soon as possible. Mount it outside the array and start copying data to another disk. I would start with the most critical data first. Try to keep the drive cool. You may get errors on some files - skip them. Chances of success are 90% or better to retrieve the vast majority of data. The drive is a goner. Check for any remaining warranty and RMA fast after data recovery. Some of this generation had 5 year warranties I believe.
