Unraid is unreachable, ping timeouts

Featured Replies

I have just unplugged the network cable from one of my other PCs and connected my unraid seriver back on the LAN.

The server starts fine, I am logged in to the root fine.

When I try to connect to the server, it is not visible on the network.

It used to be connected to the same cable, but I had the server off for a while.

What command lines can I use on the server to do some network diagnostics?

Any ideas what the issue could be?

Any help is appreciated.

* The easiest way currently is to install the UnMENU addon, then check the Network page.

* You can also use the Console Commands for Networking.

* And your syslog will probably have very useful information, as to what is (or is not) happening network-wise.  See the Troubleshooting link in my sig for help with accessing the syslog.

Haven't seen you in quite awhile!  Welcome back!

Thanks for the quick reply.. been busy watching movies!

Since my server mboard was upgraded, the network connection was rock solid.

I checked the inet and under echo it says it is 10.21.16.17. Is that right?

I tried pinging it, but there is no response.

Is it worth wiping my unraid usb key and starting from scratch? Do I need to know which hard disk is parity? Don't want to wipe any data of course in the process.

When I type ifconfig I don't see anything wrong, no errors recorded, packets exchanged etc.

When I type ethtool -i echo0 and it finds driver and device alright.

No luck in pinging google from the server either.

Is this working now? or not?

We have no idea... It is as likely to be right as wrong.

You are not following instructions.   I have no idea what "inet" is...  we asked you for specific output from specific commands mentioned in the wiki.  You seem to want to run them and interpret them yourself.

I tried pinging it, but there is no response.

Pinging what? from where? using what IP address? or what name?

Since you are not sharing your EXACT commands, and EXACT responses... we cannot help you...   That makes us helpless... ;)

No

Then supply the requested output.  DO NOT try to interpret it yourself.. You are not experienced enough to figure this out on your own,  we can help, but only if you supply the command output as requested.

When I type ifconfig I don't see anything wrong, no errors recorded, packets exchanged etc.

Did you know what to look for?  I'll bet not, otherwise, your server would be on the network.

Supply the results we request... we cannot help you if you just say it is broken, but looks good to you, but does not work.

Glad you were watching movies.

what output do you get from these commands:

ifconfig eth0

ethtool eth0

ethtool -i eth0

ping google.com

cat /etc/resolv.conf

smbstatus

Hey guys, sorry but from the server there was no way I could get a screenshot, and my PC was in another room. I was packing to go to Switzerland, and didn't really have the time to write things down and then type them in.

Sorry to waste your time, I gave my server to a friend whilst I was in the process of moving house, and it turns out that he changed the IP address of the server (my Lan is in the 192.168 etc etc....). I think this is the reason why the server does not connect to any other PC on the Lan. I will change the IP of one of my PCs and see if that way I can log on to the web interface and change the ip address.

Will let you know how it goes, before I waste anyone elses's time. In Zurich tonight, back on Friday, cmon Barcelona!!!

I changed the ip adress of my pc to 10.21.16.18 and voila, I can now see Tower in windows explorer. I went to the settings page and I changed the ip address to obtain automatically (it was set to a specific ip address). Can't connect to it via internet explorer, but I guess a reboot will cure that.

All is well what ends well.
