I recently bought some HGST 6T drives and noticing a slight oddity.

 

Occasionally an "hdparm -C" on the /dev/sdX device says the the spin status is "unknown". Expecting "active" or "standby". Never seen this behavior with 4T or smaller drives.

 

This confuses myMain and probably the Dynamix Gui also.

 

Anyone know what's going on with that. Seems wrong that the OS would not be able to report this basic fact.

    Do you know if there is a newer updated version of hdparm? The drive is likely reporting a different value than what the programs know how to handle, so maybe if there is an update the program was changed to deal with the new status.
