March 13, 201511 yr Hello. I am about to upgrade my current servers MB/CPU and was going take the old i3 and make a pfSense router out of it. Since most MB's come with 2-4 Gbe nics I had a question about them. 1) Since unRaid is already run a one 1Gbe output and everything is wired to cat5e I know I will not see any gain in speeds, that's not what I'm after. I'm new to vlan/bonding, but will I see a boost when multiple users are accessing the server. Or should I not bother? Seems like a waste to not utilize the extra ports. 2) Should I connect to the switch, then to pfsense and then to modem. unRaid->Switch->Router(pf)->Modem. Or skip the switch? unRaid->Router(pf)->Modem 3) Anyone use pfSense and their views on it? My current router lacks good QoS and decent port forwarding so instead of buying an expensive router I thought I'd just make one out of what I got. I also have an old Atom 330 that I may use instead for better power saving. Thanks.
