Boot loop - is my flash drive dying?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I get this strange issue with my NAS sometimes where when it starts up it won't boot into unRAID but rather just restarts over and over.

I have my router set to wake the server up every evening and I will come home some days and not be able to access it because it is boot-looping and I have to power it off and back on to get it to boot properly. The BIOS splash screen comes up then it runs through the screen for the the AOC-SASLP-MV8 card where it lists the disks connected but then next instead of showing the blue unRAID boot selection screen it will restart.

Initially I thought the issue might have been related to the motherboard so I have updated the BIOS to the latest version but still no luck. BIOS also set not to boot to any of the array disks and just the USB drive.

Makes me think the USB drive might be failing? Can anyone think what might be at fault here? As I said the issue doesn't happen every time the server boots only sometimes.

Spec:

ASRock B75 Pro3-m

Intel Core i5-2500

4GB RAM

AOC-SASLP-MV8

Intel PRO1000 NIC

Put your flash in your PC and let it checkdisk. If that doesn't help anything, you could try booting from a different flash with a fresh install, no disks assigned, just to test if it acts differently.
