filch
Hello all, Is there a way to convert a smaller (500GB) drive that is current assigned as disk1 to the cache drive? I have a 3TB parity drive and two other 3TB data drives. TIA Dave Quote Link to comment

itimpi
You mean a rebuild? unRAID does not provide a standard way to reduce the number of data disks (which is what you seem to be asking for if you want to convert an existing data disk to be used as a cache disk). What you have to do instead is use the New Config option to redefine your array and this time assign only the disks you want to use as data disks. Any existing data on data disks will remain intact. Make sure you know which is the parity drive as incorrectly assigning a data disk as a parity disk will destroy its contents when you start up the array. You do not mention whether you already have data on the 500G disk you want to use as a cache drive? If so it is good idea to move it one of the other disks before making any change so that the 500G drive is empty. Having said that, this may not be critical as I think any data would survive the switch to being a cache disk (and mover would subsequently move it to the appropriate place on the remaining data disks), but I am not sure if anyone has tested this out.
