March 17, 201511 yr My very first post, sorry if i make some mistakes in letters Do not now to buy new GA-F2A88XM-D3H, considering that i already own GA-890GPA-UD3H. The main goal is to have 8 SATA ports and electricity bill because of 24/7 running. For now i use it for file sharing and transmission, more functions in the future For 890 mobo i can choose sempron 140 (single core) or triple core 720BE. For short time the PC with 3 disks (with sempron) and were plug in electricity meter and comp drawn around 65-75W, which is unacceptable. Don't how how much AM2 mobo is thirsty, i can only guess from reading internet reviews. That's all for now, best regards from small country Slovenia, not Slovakia
July 9, 201511 yr Looking at this particular board with a A10 7700K Kaveri - I can get a combo with this for ~$120. Concerned about electricity consumption...it's a 95W processor, but you get 4 cores @ 3.4 - 3.8 Ghz. This mobo has 8 SATA ports and this processor seems to be a good complement - the 7850 is aimed at graphics with 12 cores - 4 processor and 8 Graphics cores so that is useless for unRAID. The 7700 is 4 processor and 4 graphics. I was planning to pair it with 16GB DDR3-2133 Memory for a start since the Kaveris really like fast memory and 2133 is as fast as you can run without overclocking. The A10-7800 may be a better choice - it isn't unlockable, but it is a bit faster but the biggest benefit is it is a 65W processor. I am wondering if there is a better CPU for this board? I want extra processing cores for an onboard Media Server app.
July 10, 201510 yr I'm running a A8-7600 but I certainly don't do much to stress it. Real time streaming of a couple of videos is about the worst I do and it doesn't seem to be stressed much to do the encoding.
July 14, 201510 yr Which app did you go with to serve your media? Plex, Serviio, Universal Media server or something else? Also, are you running as plugins or Dockers? I am trying to consider performance with either approach. I could see myself possibly running docker apps but not full blown virtualized servers. Thanks in advance.
