format wont work

I've added a few new disks to a clean unraid install. the disks were used in a windows machine and unraid recognises them as NTFS.

 

when i bring the array online it says

mounting and the page never reloads.

 

hitting F5 to refresh i get each disk listed as unformated.

 

hitting the format button i get a flurry of disk activity for arround 3 seconds then silence.

 

on the unRAID console it says:

 

sh: line 1: 2410 Aborted        mkreiserfs -q /dev/md3 >/dev/nul 2>&1

sh: line 1: 2416 Aborted        mkreiserfs -q /dev/md3 >/dev/nul 2>&1

sh: line 1: 2419 Aborted        mkreiserfs -q /dev/md3 >/dev/nul 2>&1

sh: line 1: 2414 Aborted        mkreiserfs -q /dev/md3 >/dev/nul 2>&1

 

each time i try to run the format the number before the aborted increases with no obvious pattern.

 

can anyone help?

 

I'm running 4.4.2

 

no parity disk atm.
