March 22, 201511 yr Hi Guys, I have a X9SCM-F-O I updated the BIOS to the latest version (X9SCM4.109 - R2.1) This has bricked my server. I now get 5 short beeps, 1 long. (no POST) My suspicion is that the server is no longer detecting the RAM that I have - Kingston (KVR1333D3E9SK2/8G) - 16Gb I have tried a single stick, but with no luck. Without being able to POST, I cant do anything! Any suggestions?
March 23, 201511 yr Appendix A http://www.supermicro.com/manuals/motherboard/C202_C204/MNL-1270.pdf 5 short, 1 long = no memory detected Doesn't necessarily surprise me as server hardware can be rather picky. Try contacting Supermicro support, they are usually pretty good with helping assuming it is something they can help with.
March 23, 201511 yr Out of interest, I did this same update on my server, and have the same RAM as you. I did not experience this issue. I know that doesn't help much... hopefully Supermicro can assist you!
March 24, 201511 yr Author I have reached out to SuperMicro, suggestions: 1) Remove the power and try again. (No change) 2) Put just 1 stick of RAM in DIMM2A, try each stick. It is good to know that the update and same RAM is working for you. I will try option 2, but don't like my luck. Have also cleared the CMOS.
March 27, 201511 yr Author No luck with the RAM in DIMM2A. Tried my 4 sticks, and also tried two more from a friend (same ones). No answer from the Supermicro email address. Looks like it is time to buy the same board again.
March 27, 201511 yr I just updated tonight, and I believe I have the same RAM (Kingston, at least) and no issues here either. You've pulled the plug, but how long did you wait before powering it back up? Might be worth pulling the plug and waiting an hour... Sucks that a BIOS flash may have bricked you.
