v6 - where are the plugins?

Featured Replies

I started my backup server yesterday and set up v6b14b.

The GUI looks nice and works very well so far - well done (as far as I can tell after one day uptime)!

However, I couldn't find out how the plugin system is intended to be used.

Do I have to search the forum for a "possibly working" plugin or is there a central database

that I can link?

In v5 there is unMENU and Control Panel which are very useful management pages.

How is v6 supposed to work in this context?

Plugins?  No.

Docker?  Yes.  Docker is where it's at now.

unMENU was never an official part of unRAID. It works on v6 too however, so you can install it if you like.

On Unraid v6 docker is the preferred way to add additional apps to the system. Docker containers

are standalone and can't clash with each other when installing dependency packages, like plugins do.

With plugins updating one, can break others or in the worst case the whole system.

So I suggest researching the docker forum, to get your apps that way.

If you need a specific app, for which no docker is available, it might be available as an plugin still.

Search the plugin design thread for PhAzE, as he converted a lot of plugins to unraid v6 and made

them in a way, that they are compatible to both v5 and v6.

Other plugin developers might have an v5/v6 or v6 only version available, too. Please search the

threads. IMHO there is no central point yet, that lists them all.

Plugins  on v6 are installed by pasting the github link on the install field of the new v6 plugin

manager.

Nice, those links are almost what I was looking for.

I noticed, that plugins (apps) are supposed to be docker containers now.

What I was thinking of are things like:

- cache_dirs

- ntfs3_g

- snap

- s3_sleep

They're not really plugins. Maybe I didn't make myself clear in the OP.

Not sure how to call them.

Dymanix related plugins can be found in this thread which covers cache_dirs and s3_sleep.

The SNAP and NTFS-3G plugin for v6 is described here

I think over time these plugins (possibly enhanced) are quite likely to be migrated by LimeTech to the base unRAID release.

Another useful plugin you did not mention is the NerdPack which gives you things like screen (amongst others).

SNAP is the only plugin I use, which I use to mount a XFS formatted SSD, which holds my Docker image and also my downloads and Plex library folders.
