exporting share to other user

Featured Replies

i now have other person on network.  i created a user id for him, listed him as a user in the shares i wanted exported to him, but now he is having trouble getting tower to come up, under Network, just like i used to.

I have his Workgroup named properly, the same as under settings in unraid and network.  He is able to get to tower and logon by typing in //tower, in browser, however does not show up in Network Places, which is necessary for playing files on pwr dvd, or tmt.  he has network discovery on.  I can't think of a reason why he's not getting it.  Can anyone help with this?

thanks,

rlr

These problems almost always come down to the fact about how the OS operates.  I know even on my Mac Tower will not appear right away, or sometimes ever.

My suggestion is to just create a shortcut or map tower to a drive letter.  That way it is always there and when the person is not seeing it Network Places they can double click on the map/shortcut and it will work.

Hey,

yeah, but unfortunately that doesn't work for playing bd or dvd files, which have to be selected by folder by the software, and that's essentially what this is set up for.

But you can "map" a drive letter to a network share.  That's how I handle it for the "shared" drive I use for documents on my LAN. I use drive"S" to make it easy for my wife to remember.

I am pretty sure it does because that Is how a lot of my computers are set up.  My modded xbox maps smb:\\tower\DVD as a drive so that I can play any of the .ISO DVD backups I have on the server.

I have also mapped drives for my room mates so they are easier to get to and they have not said anything about not being able to play a DVD .iso file.

The big issue is which machine becomes the "master" on a network or subgroup.  There must only be one set to be the master browser.

this document (part of the docs that come with SAMBA) describe it....

On your settings page, do you have "Local Master" set to yes, or no?

(I've got mine set to "no" and everything works on all my PCs and media players)  I've also got a "guest" user set up with no password set since my media player logs in as "guest"

ohhh, i see what you're saying, or i figured out how to make it work with TMT3.  i map network locations to the shares in My Computer, then i can open them from the other software, this is way easier, trying to get Tower to show up was getting kinda old.

that was easy, just mapped network drive from My Computer, before i was mapping a network location, i think, and shortcuts.  anyways this is hugely better than fiddling around with getting Tower to come up in Network, that was starting to become a real PITA and was discouraging, so i am much happier now.

thanks a lot guys- Prostuff1, Joe L

ok, now that that's working fine, or kind of....

whenever i restart it says "can't reconnect all network drives" and all the shares have x's through them, you just need to log onto one, and the rest will open up, but why does it not remember name and password like it does for \\tower?

i tried setting them up with "connect with different username" which allowed for the checkbox to save password, but when i restarted with that i got "cannot connect to multiple <something> with different usernames".

thanks for any help,

rlr
