Regarding new disk

Featured Replies

I added a new disk to my array, my question is regarding splitting data over all 3. I have my shares set to:

High-water

Automatically split only the top level directory as required.

Checking Array devices, I see that no new data is being written to the new disk at all, not even the folders on the other disks (top level folders) are being created.  Is there something I'm doing wrong?

The way that high water works is like this

Assuming all three disks are 3tb:

Data is written to the first drive (1, 2 or 3) that has more than 1.5 TB free.  After that data is written to the 2nd drive that has more than 1.5TB free, and so on.

After all three disks have at least 1.5tb written to them, then the first disk is filled to 750GB, and so on.

So depending upon your free space on the other drives, your new drive might not see any writes.

Should I switch it to "Most-free"?  I've like everything on all drives or would it be better to keep it as is?

EDIT: Switching to Most-Free fixed my issue.

EDIT2: Any new data still not being written to disk 3, its filling the other 2 disks.

I'm stumped.

Make sure that disk3 isn't excluded under global share settings (or under any of the shares for that matter)

Also wouldn't be a bad idea to stop / start the array.

Its included in all shares and have tried restarting the array.  still no go.

Don't just check the shares settings -- check the Global Shares settings.  If you a specific list of Includes on the Global settings page, then only those disks will be used for your shares, regardless of what you list for the individual shares.
