March 31, 201511 yr I just noticed that my unraid transfer of a large file failed before my eyes, and that all the unraid folders disappeared in Windows Explorer. So I checked unmenu and it showed an OUT of memory message. I pulled the syslog (attached) and found another 30 crashes in the last 20 days! This is not good, is the memory failing or not enough? Any suggestions on how to fix this (cheaply) would be appreciated! Memory details in my signature below.. syslog.zip
March 31, 201511 yr Your cheapest solution is to remove all of the plugins. Your best solution would be to upgrade the memory. You should be able to find some DDR2 sticks kicking around somewhere from someone (very expensive to buy brand new nowadays however)
March 31, 201511 yr Your syslog shows smbd (the samba daemon) being killed due to RAM shortage, so it is not surprising that you lose share access. I also notice that you are running with only 512MB of RAM. I wonder if you are running too many plugins for this level of RAM? Have you added any additional plugins recently? You could do a 'safe boot' to run without any plugins to see if the issue goes away.
March 31, 201511 yr Author Thanks guys, this is the RAM that MrMemory recommended for the server http://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-ram-products/2gb-240-pin-ddr2-pc2-6400-800mhz Would one stick be enough or do I need to buy two? Does unraid support 4 GB of RAM?

The plugins are here to stay I really love the email warning me of temperature or missing drive issues, so I don't want to go back to driving in the dark... so I will upgrade the memory, just how much memory I need/ unraid supports are the questions.

Unraid can and will support as much memory as you can put into a machine (although with more than 4 you should be using unRaid 6).

Safe boot is an option on the unRAID boot menu. However you do need a keyboard/monitor attached to your unRAID system to see this. It is also possible to edit the syslinux.cfg file on the USB drive (it is a text file) and move the Default entry to the Safe Boot section of that file so it is what is invoked by default when booting headless.
April 2, 201511 yr Author Thanks, I just emptied the plugins folder and it worked. No plugins loaded and no memory issues in the last two days. Still waiting for the memory to get here...
