June 6, 200917 yr i just installed windows 7 RC on two of my computers and for a while it worked fine with unraid. but now at random wheni browse into one of the unraid shares, windows 7 doesn't see any files in it. the only way i have found to get it to see the files in the shares again is to stop and restart the unraid array. then windows see everything properly again. this seems to happen at random. whats the deal? how can i fix this?

Wait for the next release of windows 7. Google "MASTER BROWSER" and you'll see it is almost always a windows issue. Do you have "Local Master" set to yes, or no on the "Settings" page in the unRAID management interface? Try the other setting. (It may not have any effect, but who knows)
June 6, 200917 yr Author really? i never had this problem with the win7 beta... what does the local master setting do?
June 9, 200917 yr i've been running win 7 rc since about a week before it's offical release, and i've had no problems at all with it and unraid

July 2, 200917 yr I recently ran into an odd problem, possibly after an update to the Win7 RC. I can see the unRAID box from networking, I can connect and see disk1, disk2, Music, etc., but trying to select any of the shares/folders causes the process to hang (regardless of how I'm trying to reach it... map a network drive, filezilla, etc). I can reach other networked boxes without issue. And when I went to change the Local Master setting, after clicking apply, the browser appears to hang as well. I can't get the initial page to come back up. Interestingly, the browser doesn't seem to want to time out either... it's been trying to connect for over 15m, merrily churning away. EDIT: unRAID is pingable from Win7 box. And I can telnet to it. EDIT 2: The Electric Bugaloo: ps -ef shows... I dunno, dozens of /usr/sbin/smbd -D processes. I don't recall seeing that before. EDIT 3: Yanking plug and restarting box seems to have fixed issue, although that seems a harsh way to deal with the issue. I'd very much like to know how I managed to bollix things that badly.
September 25, 200916 yr I'm having the same problem seeing files but with Windows XP. One winXP machine sees and plays everything fine. The other sees folders, but not files. I've try with and without user permissions, etc. Help? KermitJr Update: Got it (for me at least). Turns out it was a file permission issue. The files not being seen were the ones I copies from a local drive (attached to the server) direct to disk. I noticed that files I copied over the network worked and those local did not. I also notice that I could view them (over the network) from within Linux (Gnome/Ubuntu) if I "view hidden files". So in one directory with normal: see only net copied files. Hit ctrl-H and Voila! see them all. Turned out to be a file permission issue. Fix: Telnet in. cd /mnt/disk1/Movies (which is the share) chmod -Rf 0700 * that gives a -rwx------ vice the -rwxr-xr-x the originally had. Now it all works.
September 27, 200916 yr There is a possible issue with Samba in recent unRAID betas and Windows 7, see the Samba part of this post, especially the threads linked there. I'm wondering if some of the users who posted above can check whether this may be the same issue that they experienced, with Samba quitting. In one of the threads, Joe has some commands to try, to gain some info on what may be happening here.
