April 17, 201511 yr I have been searching for information, but a lot of it seems old information our just over my head. I am trying to find a TV Tuner for Unraid that will allow me to record a show or two and watch a different channel at the same time over my network. I am in the US and right now we are using an OTA Antenna for TV, but I would also like a tuner that would also do cable down the road if I had a cable card. I would be using Kodi for watching the TV signals over my home network from various rooms running HTPC's and Raspberry Pi 2's. So in short I need a tuner for: 1. Antenna Signal and Cable compatible in the US 2. Supported by Unraid (and Kodi?) 3. Can be used to stream channels over network to other locations in home using Kodi for playback I am running Unraid 6 with a Cache SSD
April 17, 201511 yr A hdhomerun would work great for unraid as it is a network tuner and would not need pci passthrough to make it work with a VM or docker.
April 18, 201511 yr Author Would HDhomerun allow me to pause on a device that does not have storage? I would like Unraid to handle the storage with recording and pausing.
April 18, 201511 yr It depends what software you use to control it. I use a windows VM with argus tv as my pvr software that saves to my unraid, all time shifting is also saved to unraid. If you use something else like the tvheadend plugin or docker I can not speak for those, but my experience with tuners and windows pvr software is that the time shifting is saved to the pvr "server" (the computer that has the pvr software) and streamed to the "client" (like xbmc/kodi)
April 18, 201511 yr I use two hdhomerun prime cable card tuners and I run a mythbuntu backend server in a virtual machine. I use a separate drive mounted only in the vm for live tv buffer and recordings. I watch tv on a few zotac zboxes running openelec or using xbmc on laptops or computers
April 18, 201511 yr I use a Ceton InfiniTV 6 that I use with Mythbuntu as the backend and Kodi machines as the frontend. Works fine. I don't really do anything through my Unraid NAS because its connected to a VPN 24/7
