Cache Drive Failing??..??

Featured Replies

Hello, it has been a long time since I have had to post here.

In the past 4-5 days, I have noticed that my unRaid has needed a reboot as it appears that the Cache Drive has suddenly disappeared.  This was discovered as Plex appeared to no longer be available.

When I would log into the unRaid mgmt. menu, I would try to STOP and START the PLEX plugin to no avail.

Further investigation would show that the status of the Cache drive was "not installed" or whatever it actually says when there is no Cache Drive.

If i STOPPED the Array, and instructed to REBOOT, it would come back up, but still no CACHE Drive.

I had to STOP Array and then POWERDOWN, then manually Power the Server back on, and the Cache would be OK.

This has happened 2x.  When looking at the unRaid Mgmt. tool, there are 0 errors reported on the drive, so i would like to think that his drive is OK (only ~ 2 years old).

any thoughts or ideas of what I can do to narrow this down further?

Many Thanks!!

Hello,

Please see attached SMART output of impacted drive.

TY!

smart.txt

The drive looks fine except for one possible issue, the number of reallocated sectors is 1656.  Do you happen to have a much older SMART report to compare?  If it shows 1656 from long ago, then the Cache drive is OK but something else is going on, and we need a syslog covering a trouble period.  If however the reallocated sectors are recent, then that would probably explain the problems you have seen recently.  I'd take it offline, and thoroughly test it, run one or more PreClear passes on it.

Thank you for the updates.

I think I will probably replace the drive given the low cost factor.  I just remembered something else that occurred based on your feedback....

The other day I was running a backup from my main computer to the unRaid.  It was backing up photos, and I got an error of Read errors on the destination drive (which would have been Cache).  So, that leads me to believe that this is recent.

Ill have to backup the contents (plugin info) and then replace it.

Thanks!!!
