Performance degradation....

Featured Replies

I've been seeing some performance degradation in the last few months. I've confirmed all cables/connections are good. I have a high quality Seasonsic PSU that I've tested also. I've mainly seen latency issues. When I connect my workstation(s) to the multiple network shares it takes up to a minute sometimes to display the directory structure of the user shares. I have a 13 drive array with no cache drive. I have a total of 5.5TB free. Using version 5.0.6 which has been very stable. When I bring up the main GUI, I do see over 500 errors on one particular drive. It is still in warranty. I'm guessing that could be the issue. I'll need to run some hard drive tests through the terminal. It has been so long since I needed to troubleshoot or run any tests, but what would be the best way to test an individual drive? I can locate and find the drive and use the screen command to let it run, but I would want to run it with the correct switches to get the correct output. I know some of the longer tests take a long time, so I would want to throw the output into a file so I can review it later. These are all WD Black drives, so all are in warranty. Only reason I buy the Black editions, but have bought a couple HGST 3 year warranty ones.

EDIT: Looks like I don't have to run any tests. Apparently this drive looks like it is failing and on its way out already. I assume this could be slowing everything down.

Definitely bad. Replace immediately

Waiting on delivery on a couple new drives. I usually keep one on hand, but used it for another system.
