need help choosing a sata card that supports 1.5TB and greater drives.

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I've run out of ports on the motherboard and am just about to the point of needing to add another drive and need some advice.  I had nearly decided on choosing this card recommended from the wiki: SuperMicro AOC-SAT2-MV8.  However, one of the reviews on newegg stated that these did not work with the seagate 1.5 TB drives.  I'm guessing that it is likely that it wouldn't work with other manufacturers with 1.5 TB and greater either.  So, are there any cards known to work in unraid with today's larger capacity drives?

My motherboard:  ASUS P5B-VM DO LGA 775 Intel Q965 Express Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Thanks!

I have this Supermicro card in my system. I had three 1.5 TB Seagate drives hooked up to it when I was running my old motherboard.. They ran without a problem. I don't have any idea why that review would say that. Several of us use this card here with big drives & do not have any problems..

Thanks for the reply... good to know it works.  The newegg reviewer must have just had a configuration that didn't support this card and the supermicro tech support blew him off because those particular drives weren't _officially_ supported.

Any other thoughts on these cards?  Is there a better one?  I was looking for a PCI Express card because I'm a little concerned about the hit to parity checks with just a standard PCI card... should I be?  Seems like there aren't many options with PCIe.
