May 2, 201511 yr saw that another person on here had this problem after updating to beta 15 but I can't seem to fix it, any thoughts?
May 2, 201511 yr Author well it is something in my configs folder, I reformated and beta 15 boots fine on its own but when i copy over my configs folder i get the smbd thing.
May 2, 201511 yr Community Expert well it is something in my configs folder, I reformated and beta 15 boots fine on its own but when i copy over my configs folder i get the smbd thing. Did you just copy over the whole of the config folder, or did you do a selective copy of the configuration files? If you copied over the whole folder you may well have copied items like plugins that are not v6 compatible. Providing a syslog would probably allow us to verify if this is the case.
May 2, 201511 yr Author I copied the folder but deleted the plugins folder. And I'll have to provide a syslog tomorrow, it's time for bed now.
May 2, 201511 yr Community Expert Read this for information for information on EXACTLY what files and folders should be copied over: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Upgrading_to_UnRAID_v6
May 2, 201511 yr Community Expert Since this is not really a defect report suggest a mod move it to v6 General Support. If it turns out to be a defect then the actual defect report that follows the guidelines can link to it there.

May 2, 201511 yr well it is something in my configs folder, I reformated and beta 15 boots fine on its own but when i copy over my configs folder i get the smbd thing. There's something on your config that is killing the Samba daemon, and your best chance is to verify/remove the /boot/config/smb-extra.conf file.

May 2, 201511 yr Ok, I'm starting to think we should approach this by process of elimination. Can you try doing a stock flash device (none of your old settings), then try adding files to the config folder one at a time? Specifically the shares.cfg and the shares sub folder off of the config folder...
May 5, 201511 yr Author I'll have to try this over the weekend, I'm super busy with school during the week. But I'll try that out and report back.
May 21, 201511 yr Author well I added the files one by one and i found that secrets.tdb gives me the error what is this file?
May 21, 201511 yr Author does anyone know if I can replace this file? the unraid wiki doesn't give any info about this file.
May 21, 201511 yr I believe that's the samba password data store. If that's correct, you shouldn't need it -- it will be recreated when needed if you set passwords.
May 21, 201511 yr Author I believe that's the samba password data store. If that's correct, you shouldn't need it -- it will be recreated when needed if you set passwords. there is also a smbpasswd file and a passwd file wouldn't the smbpasswd file be the password for that? It says its a created file I just don't want it to mess up anything in my array.
May 21, 201511 yr I'm not sure -- but there are a couple of threads in another forum that imply this file can simply be deleted and it will be recreated when needed. You'll need for one of the Limetech experts to comment on it if that's not the case.
May 21, 201511 yr Author well I guess I could always try it and then if it messes something up I can just use my back up of my flash drive that I have. Ill probably try that once my preclears finish, 8tb drives so about 2 days. Hopefully it will be faster, I'm trying out the faster preclear script.
May 22, 201511 yr Hopefully one of the Linux experts will chime in before the pre-clears finish and confirm exactly what you need to do regarding that file.
May 23, 201511 yr Author well my server messed up and I have to start the preclears again, but im going to delete that file and see what happens. Ill report back after I do it.
May 23, 201511 yr Author Well smb works again and it hasn't recreated the file and my server seems to be working fine. Sooo ya I guess I'm good to go without it?
May 24, 201511 yr Author Certainly seems so ... I'd just leave well enough alone well thanks for your help, I guess I will mark this as solved so maybe some other people who have the same problem will be able to fix it.
May 24, 201511 yr The simple fact is that for ANY OS, it's always "cleanest" to just reinstall from scratch rather than moving stuff over from the previous install.
