Dell SAS6/iR 8-port SATA/SAS PCI-e controller card

Featured Replies

I stumbled across this card while searching for some other parts for a Dell 2950 server:

http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/Controllers/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=bsd&cs=cabsdt1&sku=341-5943

with this link its only $80 (though it shows up as about $200 elsewhere on Dell's rambling site)...

There does seem to be some support for this card in some flavors of Linux, would it work with Linode?  Other problem is it does not include the cables...

There is also an older SAS5/i card, which includes cables (though I suspect they are to go to Dell's drive back plane, not individual drives):

which is a 4 port card for $86

Regards,

Stephen

By "linode" I meant "unraid"...  lime line linux, too many neurons fired at once or something...

I was looking at this card the other day.... I would highly suggest you check the prices of cables for this thing.  In my particular instance, I needed to connect to SAS backplanes. The cheapest I could find a cable to connect to this card and my backplanes properly was nearly $25 for one cable.  If your going straight to SATA connectors then the cable prices shouldn't be too bad, but the extra $50 for cables for my setup was a turn off since I didn't even know if the card would work with unRAID.
